Getting 2012 started!

I visited the plot today after quite a few months. It was not in a bad state at all but needed some weeding.  I look up a wheelbarrow full of compost from the home composter and will dig that in to the ground where I'll be growing lettuces and brassicas this year.  I've also got some seeds for yellow courgettes and some rocket.

Last year the gooseberries got eaten by birds so I have made a frame around the bush with canes and tied netting over it.  I hope this will fix the problem.  I had a good weed around the bottom of the bush and have put some mypex around it to stop weed growth.

The second bed was open all year last year so a bit weedy.  I've given it a very intensive weed and it's looking much better now, ready for planting this years seeds and plants.

  1. Looking good, might have to steal your tip of putting something round the bottom of the berries - we've inherited someone else's plot and we have to protect against hares as well as birds, so weeding will be difficult!
